The following steps are involved in obtaining a Canadian work permit:
ImmiLaw Immigration helps clients obtain a work permit and start working in Canada. However, we do not actively secure jobs for clients as we are not a recruiting agency.
The most crucial advantage that a Canadian work permit is that it helps the holder arrive in Canada faster. Under some categories, the work permit holder is allowed to bring their spouse and dependent children. These family members might also be entitled to open work permits so that they may also work in Canada.
A Canadian work permit is offered for a specific position. If the holder wants to change their job, they will have to apply for a work permit. Moreover, the validity of the work permit is temporary and comes with an end date.
It is possible to renew a work permit, but the work permit will not give you a permanent status. However, Canadian work experience helps work permit holders to apply for permanent residence in Canada.
Most of the Canadian Work Permits require a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). It is a petition submitted by a Canadian employer to Human Resources and Skills Development Canada /Service Canada to bring a foreign worker to Canada. It is up to the discretion of HRSDC/Service Canada to determine if bringing a foreign worker will have a negative or positive impact on Canada’s labour market. This is determined on a number of factors, the most important being if there is a suitable Canadian Citizen or (PR) Permanent Resident to fill the position.
You are eligible for NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) Work Permit if you are a citizen of the USA or Mexico.
An (LMIA) Labour Market Impact Assessment is a document that assesses the impact of hiring a foreign national for a particular position by a Canadian employer on the Canadian labour market. Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is issued by the Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). If the LMIA is positive, it means the employer can hire a foreign worker as there is no Canadian citizen or permanent resident (PR) to fill the vacant position. If the LMIA is negative, it means the employer has to fill the position with a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Caregivers are Temporary Foreign Workers in Canada. What differentiates caregivers from other temporary foreign workers is the fact that a few exclusive federal immigration programs available to caregivers, which means they have a direct pathway to permanent residence in Canada.
